A big advantage to being an SNHU online student is that there are no set class times, so you’re free to study around your weekly schedule — and work wherever you have access to a computer and the internet.

You’ll need to make sure you have access to a computer and the internet before the start of your first term. Specifically, here is what you’ll need to have for most degree programs:

  • Laptop or Desktop: Windows or Apple Operating system. 8GB RAM and 100GB storage
  • Internet Access: About 15 hours per week per undergraduate course; 5 MBPS download speed
  • Anti-Virus Software: Your internet service provider may include this with your subscription

IMPORTANT: Chromebooks or iPads Cannot be Primary Devices
Chromebooks (Chrome OS) and iPads (iOS) do not meet the minimum requirements for coursework at SNHU. These offer limited functionality and do not work with some course technologies. They are not acceptable as the only device you use for coursework. While these devices are convenient and may be used for some course functions, they cannot be your primary device.

Some degree programs have additional tech requirements.

To learn more about computer and tech requirements for SNHU online students, visit our resource page, “What kind of computer do I need to be an online SNHU student?”

At SNHU, most, if not all, of your classes will have discussion board posts as a big part of your grade. With these assignments, you post your answer to a question and then respond to your classmates' posts throughout the week.

Discussion assignments are a great opportunity for the class to interact, to engage and to learn from each other. In most classes, your weekly discussion post is due Thursday night, with responses to two of your classmates’ posts due Sunday night.

Discussion posts are an important part of your course grade, so we recommend starting them early in the week and giving yourself plenty of time to complete them by the Thursday night deadline.

For many classes, you’ll need software for creating text documents, spreadsheets, presentations and emails. SNHU students can download the Microsoft Office 365 suite of applications for free using their SNHU email address. To get your copy, visit Microsoft 365 for Education.

It is a violation of SNHU’s Academic Honesty policies to submit the same paper for two classes without prior permission from the instructor. This is referred to as "Multiple Submissions" or "Self-Plagiarism." Please refer to the SNHU Academic Integrity Policy for the University College (UC) and/or SNHU Academic Integrity Policy for the Global Campus (GC) for specific definitions and details.

We’ve created a student finance resource page where you can schedule a call with an SNHU student finance counselor. Here you’ll find links, FAQs and videos. You can also always call your advisor with any questions, and they’ll be happy to connect you to the right resources.

Yes. We created the SNHU HelpU program to provide students with free, confidential, in-the-moment support to help manage life's challenges while in college.

At SNHU, we believe your academic success is connected to your overall wellbeing. And we’re here to help support both.

Common issues include:

  • Depression or anxiety
  • Substance use
  • Disordered eating
  • Divorce and relationship issues
  • Loss of a family member
  • Academic or career stress

Through the HelpU program, you’ll have access to counseling from a master’s level clinician. Sessions are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You can access up to 3 sessions per incident. The HelpU program is available through the mySNHU student portal.

The HelpU program also gives you no-cost or low-cost access to a wide range of online resources relating to health, finances, legal issues, parenting and many other topics that can affect your wellness.

First, don’t become discouraged. If you miss the Thursday night deadline, you can still turn in your discussion post(s) by Sunday night. Remember — you’ll also have to respond to two of your classmates’ discussions, as well as submit your regular Sunday assignment (if applicable).

If you’re experiencing any problems with logging in, understanding your assignment or any other situation, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your advisor or instructor to let them know. We’re here to help!

If you missed the Sunday night deadline, you’re still able to submit most graded assignments by the following Sunday. (Note: Late discussion board posts may not be accepted. Check with your instructor.)

And while late assignments may receive a 10% penalty, that’s considerably better than taking a zero on an assignment!

When you enroll at SNHU, you’ll have access to career services during your studies and after graduation.

Having academic integrity means acting responsibly and ethically as a student. And a big part of it involves submitting original work for credit in your courses.

It means not plagiarizing, which is submitting someone else’s work as your own, even if you do so unintentionally. And, of course, it means not paying someone to do your work for you, which is called contract cheating.

At SNHU, academic integrity is crucial to both your reputation and ours.

That’s why we offer so many resources that make protecting your academic integrity easier. Here are the main four we recommend you use:

  1. Our online citation guide, which contains instructions and examples on how to make citations in different formats.
  2. Our writing tutors, who can provide feedback on your papers before you submit them to your instructors.
  3. Your SNHU instructors, whom you can contact via email with any questions you have about assignments and sources.
  4. Your academic advisor can also help you with any questions about academic integrity. Call your advisor at 877.591.4723 or email advising@snhu.edu.

These four resources are here to help you avoid the appearance or consequences of cheating, which can include failing a course and getting expelled from the university.

By taking advantage of these resources, you can help ensure your academic integrity is protected. And by doing that, you can earn a degree you're proud of.

First, it's important that you use the citation style required by your assignment or professor (your syllabus or assignment guidelines/description should list the required citation style but if not, ask your professor).

If you are permitted to choose a citation style to use, it may be easiest to choose one of the most common citation styles (APA, MLA, and Chicago).

To read more about choosing citation styles, visit this article from the Shapiro Library.
